TSC MH241T and MH341T troubleshooting: errors and print faults

    Fixes

    1. "Carriage Open"Solid red light

    CauseThe print head is not closed and latched.

    Fix

    1. Open the media cover and close the print head with the print head release lever until it locks.
    2. Close the media cover. The light turns green.
    2. "No Paper" or "No Ribbon"Flashing red light

    CauseThe labels or the ribbon have run out, are loaded wrongly, or the sensor was not calibrated for these labels.

    Fix

    1. If the roll is empty, load a new label roll or ribbon.
    2. If supplies are left, reload them along the correct path.
    3. For "No Paper" with labels loaded, calibrate the sensor under Menu › Sensor › Auto Calibration.

    3. "Paper Jam"Labels don't feed or stop in the wrong place

    CauseA label is stuck in the mechanism, the sensor is not calibrated, or the label size is set wrongly.

    Fix

    1. Switch the printer off, open the print head and remove any stuck labels.
    2. Reload the labels and close the print head.
    3. Set the exact label size in your driver or label software.
    4. Calibrate the media sensor.
    4. Labels skipBlank labels between printed ones

    CauseWrong label size, wrong sensor sensitivity or a dusty media sensor.

    Fix

    1. Check that the label height in your software matches the labels, without the gap.
    2. Recalibrate with Auto Calibration, or use Manual Calibration and enter the label and gap size.
    3. Switch the printer off and blow dust out of the sensor, or clean it with a soft, non-metallic brush.

    5. Ribbon wrinklesDiagonal creases or blank streaks

    CausePrint head pressure or ribbon tension doesn't suit the media, or the supplies are loaded unevenly.

    Fix

    1. Check that the ribbon is wound tight on both spindles and that the label guide touches the label edge.
    2. Check that the print head pressure knob is set correctly for the media. For labels narrower than about 50 mm (2 in), move the pressure position knob as far as possible inside the label edge.
    3. Look at the direction of the wrinkle. Turn the ribbon tension screw with a screwdriver one level, clockwise or counterclockwise as in the figure, and print again.
    4. If the wrinkle stays when the screw is at its end position, change the print head pressure by one level and print again.

    If the wrinkles remain, contact us.

    6. Faded or patchy printLight, streaky or grey-lined labels

    CauseDarkness or speed, a dirty print head or platen roller, head pressure, or ribbon and labels that don't match.

    Fix

    1. Check that the ink side of the ribbon faces the labels and that the ribbon suits the label material.
    2. Raise Density or lower Speed under Menu › Setting › TSPL (density 0–15, default 8), or the darkness setting in your label software.
    3. Switch off, let the print head cool for a minute, and clean it and the platen roller with 99 % isopropyl alcohol or a cleaning pen.
    4. Adjust the print head pressure knob and check that the release lever is fully locked.
    5. Print Menu › Diagnostic › Print Config. and look at the test pattern. Missing lines point to damaged print head dots. TSC Console's TPH Care can count them.
    7. Print in the wrong placeOff-centre, cut off or crooked

    CauseWrong label size, Shift X/Y values or a label guide that doesn't touch the labels.

    Fix

    1. Set the exact label size in the driver or label software.
    2. Move the print sideways with Shift X and along the label with Shift Y in Menu › Setting › TSPL. Values are in dots: 8 per mm on the MH241T, 12 per mm on the MH341T.
    3. If labels drift right, move the label guide left; if they drift left, move it right.
    8. Nothing printsReady, but jobs don't arrive or print garbled

    CauseA loose cable, the wrong port in the Windows driver, a blocked network or the printer is in dump mode.

    Fix

    1. Check the cable at both ends and select the correct port in the driver properties.
    2. On a network printer in the EU, check Menu › Advanced › PRTSecure. It ships set to Strict, which blocks the network. Select Standard.
    3. Use the IP address from Menu › Interface › Ethernet › Status in the driver port.
    4. If labels show codes instead of your design, the printer is in dump mode. Switch it off and on again.
    9. "Take Label" or the cutter doesn't cutPeel or cut mode problems

    Cause"Take Label" means the peel function is on. A cutter only cuts in a cutter print mode.

    Fix

    1. With a peeler fitted, remove the peeled label and the next one prints.
    2. Check Menu › Setting › TSPL › Print mode: Peeler Mode for a peeler, Cutter Mode or Cutter Batch for a cutter, Batch Mode (the default) for tearing off.
    3. If the cutter still doesn't work in Cutter Mode, switch the printer off and contact us. TSC names a loose cutter connector as the cause.

    Frequently asked questions

    How do I reset a TSC MH241T to factory defaults?

    Open Menu › Advanced › Initialization on the display, or use Functions › Printer Configuration › Factory Default in TSC Console. Calibrate the sensor again afterwards.

    How often should I clean the print head?

    TSC recommends cleaning the print head and platen roller each time you change the label roll, with 99 % isopropyl alcohol and the printer switched off.

    The display is dark but the light is on. What now?

    Switch the printer off and on again. TSC names a start-up (initialisation) that did not complete as the cause. If the display stays dark, contact us.
