Zebra RFD40 RFID Barcode Scanner (RFD4031-G00B700-WR)

The Zebra RFD40 is a UHF RFID sled that snaps onto a Zebra mobile computer and turns it into a powerful RAIN RFID reader: more than 1,300 tag reads per second, a nominal read range of 6+ metres and an ultra-accurate item-finder mode – ideal for cycle counting, inventory and asset location. It connects through Zebra's eConnex™ interface and has its own quick-release 7000 mAh battery, so it does not drain the mobile computer. This version, RFD4031-G00B700-WR, is the RFD40 Premium (with Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6 in addition to eConnex; barcodes are scanned with the mobile computer's own scanner) and works in the 902–928 MHz UHF band (900 MHz worldwide version – not the EU model).

📡 Frequency band: this -WR version is Zebra's 900 MHz worldwide model (902–928 MHz). It is not the EU model – for use in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Poland, Czechia and other EU countries, please choose the EU version RFD4031-G00B700-E8 (865–868 MHz).

Key Features

• Fast RAIN RFID reading – more than 1,300 tag reads per second (up to 30% faster than the next leading competitor, according to Zebra) and a nominal read range of 6+ metres speed up cycle counts and inventories.
• Ultra-accurate item finder – locate individual tagged items or assets quickly with the dedicated item-finder mode.
• Tri-function trigger – one trigger for RFID reading, barcode scanning and a programmable third function such as the Enter key or push-to-talk.
• Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6 – besides the eConnex connection, the sled pairs wirelessly (NFC tap-to-pair) with Zebra mobile computers without an eConnex connector and with Apple iPhone or Samsung Galaxy devices via Bluetooth adapters; Wi-Fi 6 enables over-the-air device management.
• Long-lasting power – the quick-release PowerPrecision+ 7000 mAh battery can be changed without removing the mobile computer; an optional battery locking foot keeps it in place.
• Batch mode – no live connection to your back-end system? Store up to 40,000 tags in the sled and sync them to the host later.
• Tool-free, future-proof adapters – swap the device adapter in seconds when you move to a new Zebra mobile computer, without sending devices to IT.
• Flexible charging – each cradle cup charges the sled, the mobile computer or both together; 1-slot USB and multi-slot Ethernet communication cradles let you configure sleds and push firmware updates while they charge.
• Built for daily use – multiple 1.5 m drops to concrete, 500 tumble cycles, IP54 sealing against dust and water, and an operating range of −10 °C to 50 °C.
• Easy integration – Zebra RFID SDKs are based on the existing Zebra RFID handheld SDKs (only a recompile is needed), and 123RFID Desktop lets you configure sleds and update firmware via USB.

Ideal Applications

• Retail – cycle counting, item finding, planogram compliance, returns and click-and-collect (BOPIS)
• Warehouse and back-of-store inventory management, direct store delivery and route accounting
• Healthcare – specimen and patient tracking, hospital asset management and pharmacy management
• Hospitality and events – check-in, ticketing and loyalty cards
• Food safety and traceability, field service and asset tracking

Technical Specifications

Which version is right for you? Standard is the economical choice for eConnex-enabled Zebra mobile computers; Premium adds Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for devices without eConnex and for remote management; Premium Plus also scans barcodes with its own SE4100 imager. In Europe, choose an -E8 version (865–868 MHz). Remember to add the adapter for your mobile computer and a charging solution. Looking for an all-in-one device instead?
