Zebra ZT231 Label Printer (ZT23142-D1E000FZ)

The Zebra ZT231 is a compact 4-inch industrial label printer for manufacturing, warehousing, transport and logistics, healthcare and retail – the successor to the popular ZT230. Its metal frame and enclosure, bi-fold media door and large 4.3-inch colour touchscreen make it ideal for light-industrial use. As a direct thermal model it needs no ribbon – ideal for shipping, warehouse and other short- to medium-life labels. It prints sharp 203 dpi labels up to 104 mm wide at up to 305 mm/s, takes label rolls up to 203 mm in diameter on 76 mm cores and connects via USB, RS-232 serial, Ethernet, USB Host and Bluetooth LE as standard. This version, ZT23142-D1E000FZ, has a factory-fitted peeler that presents each label peeled from its liner, ready to apply.

Key Features

• Built for light-industrial use – metal frame and metal enclosure, a bi-fold media door that needs little headroom and a side-loading media path with colour-coded touch points.
• 4.3-inch colour touchscreen – see the printer status at a glance, use set-up wizards and on-screen how-to videos, and operate it even with gloves.
• Direct thermal – no ribbon needed – up to 305 mm/s at 203 dpi; just load a roll of thermal labels and print.
• Large media capacity – label rolls up to 203 mm in diameter on 76 mm cores (152 mm on 25 mm cores) or fanfold media through the rear slot, 19.4–114 mm wide, with movable gap and black-mark sensors.
• Connected as standard – USB 2.0, RS-232 serial, 10/100 Ethernet, USB Host and Bluetooth LE, plus a Print Touch (NFC) tag for tap-to-pair; a Wi-Fi card can be added later.
• Factory-fitted peeler – the passive front peeler presents each label ready to apply (labels from 13 mm long in peel mode); the liner exits at the front.
• Fits into your existing fleet – ZPL and ZPL II (EPL on 203 dpi models), Print DNA printer emulations for other brands and compatibility with existing Zebra label formats.
• Secure and remotely manageable – Print DNA with Printer Profile Manager Enterprise and PrintSecure, onboard analytics and printhead element-out detection; tool-less printhead and platen replacement.

Technical Specifications

Which ZT231 should you choose? Direct thermal models need no ribbon and suit shipping and warehouse labels; thermal transfer models with 450 m ribbons produce durable labels on paper and synthetics. 203 dpi is ideal for barcodes and shipping labels at up to 305 mm/s, 300 dpi for small text and fine 2D codes. Then pick tear-off, peeler, peeler with liner take-up or cutter for your workflow – and Wi-Fi or UHF RFID if you need it.
