The Newland FM415 Bass is a very compact fixed-mount 2D scanner (just 49 × 69 × 20 mm and 64.6 g) for building into self-service kiosks, ticket and vending machines, access gates, lockers and counters. Its combination of an IR sensor and a light sensor starts scanning as soon as a code is presented and automatically adjusts the bright white illumination to the light reflected from the code – so it reads reliably even in low light and from smartphone screens. A red LED aimer, hands-free or triggered operation, IP54 sealing and a 1.5 m drop rating make it suitable even for outdoor installations in a housing, and Newland covers it with a 5-year (60-month) warranty. This version, NLS-FM415-U, is the USB kit: it is supplied with a 2 m USB cable – ready to plug in and scan, powered via USB, no power supply needed.
📦 What's in the box – NLS-FM415-U
- ✅ Newland FM415 Bass fixed-mount scanner – black, compact 49 × 69 × 20 mm module with red LED aimer and a short connection lead ending in the RJ50 data port; USB and RS-232 (depending on the cable)
- ✅ USB cable (CBL026U) – 2 m – plugs into the scanner's RJ50 data port and a USB port on your PC, kiosk computer or POS; the scanner is powered via USB
- ❌ Power supply – not needed – the scanner is powered via USB
- ❌ Mounting screws / housing – not included – the scanner is fitted into your own kiosk, machine, gate or counter
💡 No stand needed – the FM415 Bass is built into your kiosk, machine, gate or counter (see the dimensions drawing in the Newland user guide). The interface cable is detachable, so you can change it later – e.g. the Newland USB cable (CBL042UA) as a spare 2 m USB cable, or the Newland RS-232 cable (CBL037R) for a serial connection (RS-232 needs a 5 V power adapter on the cable's power jack).
Key Features
- Snappy, even in less-than-perfect conditions – the combination of an IR sensor and a light sensor detects a presented code instantly and keeps queues moving even in low light; strong white illumination keeps barcodes well lit.
- Intelligent illumination – the sensors automatically adjust the brightness of the supplementary lighting to the light reflected off the barcode, which makes the FM415 an excellent choice for reading mobile tickets, e-vouchers and payment QR codes from phone screens.
- Hands-free or triggered – sense, continuous and level modes for automatic scanning, or manual triggering if preferred; the scanner can be set up for optimal reading at close or longer distance (EAN-13 up to 250 mm, QR Code up to 190 mm).
- Tiny footprint – at 49 × 69 × 20 mm and 64.6 g it fits into the tightest kiosk, machine or gate designs; the red LED aimer shows users where to present the code.
- Reliable outdoor use – IP54 sealing against dust and splashing water, a 1.5 m drop rating and an operating range of −20 °C to 60 °C; installed in a housing, it can be used outdoors without worrying about dust or moisture.
- Dual interface, easy integration – USB (HID keyboard, USB CDC virtual COM, HID-POS, IBM SurePOS) or RS-232 via the detachable cable on the RJ50 data port; EasySet configuration tool and a 5-year Newland warranty.
