Connect the Zebra ZT411 to Wi-Fi

With a wireless card fitted, the ZT411 can print over Wi-Fi. This guide shows three ways to join your network: from the printer's touch display, with Zebra Setup Utilities on Windows, or with Zebra's mobile app. It also shows how to find the printer's IP address afterwards.

You'll need
  • A ZT411 with the optional wireless card
  • Your network name (ESSID), security type and password
  • For EU printers sold from 1 August 2025: a Protected Mode password
  • A Windows PC with a USB cable, or a phone with Bluetooth

Before you start

Check for the wireless card

Wi-Fi is optional on the ZT411. Standard connections are USB, RS-232 serial, 10/100 Ethernet and Bluetooth 4.1. For Wi-Fi the printer needs one of two dual-radio cards:

  • 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) with Bluetooth 5.3
  • 802.11ac with Bluetooth 4.2

The card slides into one of the two communication-card slots at the back of the printer. Zebra says fitting takes under two minutes and the cover stays on. Not sure which card suits your network? Ask us before you order.

EU printers: Protected Mode comes first

Important

ZT411 printers sold in the EU from 1 August 2025 ship with Wi-Fi (WLAN) and some other connection options switched off, in line with the EU radio equipment rules. Before any wired or wireless network setup you need to set a Protected Mode password and a front-panel password. The printer then asks for the Protected Mode password when you change the ESSID, security or IP settings. Zebra describes the process in its Link-OS PrintSecure Printer Administration Guide.

Enter your Wi-Fi settings

Pick one of the three methods below. All three end with the printer joining your network.

On the printer's touch display

  1. Open Connection › WLAN › ESSID and enter your network name exactly as your router shows it (up to 32 characters).
  2. Set Connection › WLAN › WLAN Security to the security type your network uses.
  3. Optional: set the WLAN Band (2.4, 5 or None) and the WLAN Country Code in the same menu.
  4. Optional: set Connection › Networks › Primary Network to WLAN.
  5. Apply the changes with Connection › Networks › Reset Network. The printer only uses the new settings after this reset.

With Zebra Setup Utilities on Windows

Download Zebra Setup Utilities from the Zebra ZT411 support page and install it.

  1. Connect the printer to the PC directly by USB, without a hub or extension cable.
  2. Select the printer and click Configure Printer Connectivity.
  3. In the Connectivity Setup Wizard, choose Wireless.
  4. Choose DHCP, or Static and enter the IP address, subnet and gateway.
  5. Choose your country, then enter the ESSID and security mode.
  6. Enter the key or password and choose whether it is Hex or String. Fill in Advanced Settings only if your network needs them.
  7. Review the generated settings and send them to the printer.

Sending the settings resets the printer's network settings with a soft reset, so you don't need to switch it off and on.

With the Zebra mobile app

Zebra's phone app, formerly Zebra Printer Setup Utility, is now called Zebra Nucleus Connector. Zebra's iOS app guide lists the ZT400 series as supported, with Link-OS 5.2 or later.

  1. Pair your phone with the printer over Bluetooth.
  2. Open Printer Dashboard › Settings › Connectivity › Wireless.
  3. Switch Wireless on, then set the ESSID, Security Mode, Wireless Band and Country. Set IP Addressing Protocol to Permanent if you want a fixed IP address.
  4. Tap Apply.

Set a fixed IP address (optional)

Most networks hand out addresses automatically. Use a fixed address if your label software needs a stable one, or if the printer won't connect with automatic addressing.

  1. Set Connection › WLAN › WLAN IP Protocol from ALL (the default) to PERMANENT.
  2. Enter the WLAN IP Address, subnet and gateway in the same menu.
  3. Apply with Connection › Networks › Reset Network.

Find the printer's IP address

  • On the touch display: Connection › WLAN › WLAN IP Address, or the Printer Info tab on the home screen.
  • Network label: Connection › Networks › Print: Network Info prints all network settings.
  • Configuration label: hold FEED + CANCEL for 2 seconds when the printer is Ready, or hold CANCEL while you switch it on.

Type the IP address into a web browser to open the printer's own web pages, where Wireless Setup and the TCP/IP settings are also available. To print from Windows over Wi-Fi, add the printer with a network port as shown in Install the ZDesigner driver on Windows 11.

Check the NETWORK light

The NETWORK light on the control panel shows the wireless status:

NETWORK light Meaning
Off, then Flashing red Joining the network
Flashing yellow Authenticating with the network
Steady green Connected, strong signal
Flashing green Connected, weak signal
Steady red WLAN error, not connected

On steady red, check the ESSID spelling and the security settings, then try a fixed IP address. On EU printers, check that Protected Mode is set up. If you restart the printer, let it start up completely, and after switching it off wait 30 seconds before you switch it on again.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Zebra ZT411 have Wi-Fi built in?
