Connect an Epson receipt printer to Loyverse POS

Loyverse POS prints receipts, bills and kitchen tickets from an Android or iOS phone or tablet. Here is which connection works for each of our Epson models, how to add the printer in Loyverse, and what to check if the test print fails.

You'll need
  • The Loyverse POS app, signed in
  • Network: a router and an Ethernet cable, with the phone or tablet on the same network
  • USB (Android only): a device with USB OTG support, the printer's USB cable and an OTG adapter
  • EU printers: the administrator password from the printer's password label

Which connection works with Loyverse

Loyverse's supported printers list names older Epson models, such as the TM-m30 and TM-T88V, but not the TM-m30III, TM-T20IV or TM-T88VII. You add them as Other model, which Loyverse allows for printers that use the same ESC/POS commands as Epson printers. On iOS, Other model works over Ethernet only. Loyverse notes that not every printer may work, so always run a test print.

Model (our variant) Interfaces Android iOS
TM-m30III C31CK50112 Ethernet, USB; Wi-Fi with optional unit; no Bluetooth Ethernet or Wi-Fi; USB not confirmed Ethernet
TM-T20IV C31CL47101 USB, serial; no network port USB via OTG Not possible
TM-T88VII C31CJ57112 Ethernet, USB, serial; Wi-Fi with optional unit; no Bluetooth Ethernet, Wi-Fi or USB via OTG Ethernet

On iOS, Loyverse supports USB only for two Star models. On the TM-m30III, Epson intends the USB-C port for tablets, but neither company documents USB printing from Loyverse with this model, so use Ethernet. You'll find all three in our Loyverse-compatible printer range.

Important

From 2025, Epson network printers for the EU follow the Radio Equipment Directive (RED). Epson states that their Secure Printing setting is on by default and blocks plain printing to port 9100. Loyverse states that it prints to network printers on port 9100. Taken together, a TM-m30III or TM-T88VII whose status sheet shows "Security Mode: RED" is not expected to print from Loyverse over Ethernet or Wi-Fi until Secure Printing is off (step 2). Neither company documents this combination directly, so confirm it with a test print. USB printing is not affected: Epson's RED changes apply to network and Bluetooth connections.

Connect the printer and find its IP address

Network (TM-m30III, TM-T88VII): connect the printer to a LAN port on your router, put the phone or tablet on the same router's Wi-Fi and turn the printer on. The printer gets its address from the router, and the TM-m30III prints it automatically. To print it again, make a status sheet: with the printer on, open the roll paper cover, hold Feed for at least one second and close the cover. The TM-m30III first prints a "Next Action" guidance sheet; follow it to choose the network sheet. The TM-T88VII returns to normal mode when you hold Feed for one second.

Note the IP address and look for the line "Security Mode". If it says "RED", do step 2 first. For Wi-Fi on the TM-m30III, see TM-m30III Wi-Fi and Bluetooth setup; Loyverse treats a Wi-Fi printer like an Ethernet one.

USB (Android): connect the printer's USB cable to the device through an OTG adapter, turn the printer on and wait for Android to recognise it.

Turn off Secure Printing (EU network printers)

Skip this step for USB or if the status sheet does not show "Security Mode: RED". Epson does not recommend turning Secure Printing off, because the printer then accepts unencrypted data, but says such printers can still be used in a secure and managed environment. Keep the printer on a protected network that only your business uses.

  1. On a device on the same network, enter the printer's IP address in a web browser to open Epson Web Config. A certificate warning is normal.
  2. Select Advanced Settings and log in with the administrator password. It is on the password label and after "Initial Password:" on the status sheet.
  3. Open Print › Secure Printing, choose Disable, select OK and confirm.
  4. Change the default administrator password, as Epson strongly recommends.

Epson's Web Config guides for the TM-m30III and the TM-T88VII both describe this path. The Epson TM Utility app can change the setting too.

Add the printer in Loyverse POS

  1. In the app, open Settings › Printers and tap +.
  2. Enter a Name and set Printer model to Other model.
  3. On Android, choose the Interface: Ethernet or USB.
  4. Ethernet: enter the address in Printer IP-address. USB: pick the printer from the list, shown as "USB:" plus its vendor and product ID.
  5. Set Paper width to 80 mm or 58 mm to match the printer.
  6. Tap Print test. A printed test receipt means the connection works.
  7. Switch on Print receipts and bills for customer receipts, Print orders for kitchen tickets and, if you want it, Automatically print receipt. Tap Save.

All three printers are set to 80 mm paper at the factory. Moving to 58 mm needs Epson's paper guide and a printer setting, and Epson says you cannot go back. Read using 58 mm paper first.

Set up kitchen printing (optional)

  1. In the Back Office, go to Settings › Features and switch on Kitchen Printers.
  2. In the Kitchen Printers menu, create a printer group named after its place, such as "Bar", tick its item categories and save.
  3. In the app, open the printer, switch on Print orders, select the group and save.

Give each kitchen printer its own group so each station gets only its items.

Connect a cash drawer (optional)

Plug the drawer cable into the printer's drawer kick connector. The printer needs Print receipts and bills switched on in Loyverse, and the drawer must match the printer's voltage; these Epson models supply 24 V. The drawer then opens after cash sales and cash refunds, at shift opening and closing, for Pay In and Pay Out, and on Print test. To let staff open it without a sale, tick Open cash drawer without making a sale for their group under Employees › Access Rights in the Back Office. See our cash drawer guide for the cable.

If the test print fails

  • Printer: paper loaded, cover closed, cables firmly in, no red or flashing error light.
  • Network: the device must use the Wi-Fi of the printer's router. The first three groups of the two IP addresses must match and the last group must differ.
  • Secure Printing: on an EU printer with "Security Mode: RED", check it is off.
  • Changed address: Loyverse prints to the saved address. If the router assigns a new one, update it in Loyverse, or set a fixed address in Web Config under Advanced Settings › Network › Network Basic with Obtain IP Address set to Manual.
  • USB not listed: check the device supports USB OTG, reconnect and wait for Android to recognise the printer.

Loyverse doesn't use the Epson Windows driver. You need it only for Windows programs; see installing the Epson driver on Windows.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Epson TM-m30III compatible with Loyverse?

It is not listed by name, but you can add it as Other model over Ethernet on Android and iOS and check it with a test print. If its status sheet shows "Security Mode: RED", turn Secure Printing off first.

Can I connect an Epson printer to an iPad with Loyverse by USB?

No. Loyverse supports USB on iOS only for two Star models. Use Ethernet with the TM-m30III or TM-T88VII.

Does the TM-T20IV work with Loyverse?

Our USB and serial variant can be added as Other model on Android over USB with an OTG adapter; run a test print to confirm. It cannot be used on iOS because it has no network port.

Why won't my new Epson printer print from Loyverse over the network?

If the status sheet shows "Security Mode: RED", Secure Printing is on by default. Epson says it blocks printing to port 9100, and Loyverse uses that port for network printers. Turn Secure Printing off in Web Config, then run Print test again.
